About Double Cross

Double Cross is a daily web‑based crossword game where each clue has two possible answers that occupy paired slots on the grid. Players type guesses, switch answers between slots, and match crossing letters to find the only arrangement that fits. A “Seal” button submits the puzzle; correct entries flash green, wrong ones flash red and cost one of four lamps. Hints include “Chisel” (reveals a single letter at the cost of a lamp) and “Almanac” (fills a chosen pair for free, marking the day as assisted).

Capabilities

Dual‑answer clues

Each crossword clue provides two answers that must be placed in two matching slots without the clue indicating which answer goes where.

Interactive grid

Players type guesses directly into the grid; crossing letters must match, and only one arrangement satisfies all intersections.

A tap ⇄ lets users switch the two answers for a clue between their slots without re‑typing.

Seal submission

Pressing SEAL checks the puzzle; correct entries flash green, incorrect ones flash red and reduce a lamp.

Lamp system

Players start with four lamps; each mistake costs one lamp, and losing all lamps ends the puzzle.

Chisel hint

Reveals a single letter in the grid at the cost of one lamp.

Almanac hint
